Shelters for Seattle's Homeless
This fall and winter I am hoping to raise at least $2500 to buy tarps and paracord that will go to protecting our homeless population here in Seattle. Many of these folks have tents, which do not remain dry in periods of extended precipitation, and many have nothing more than a blanket.
My hope is to buy 10,000 feet of paracord and 160 6x8 foot tarps to provide some much needed shelter for those who do not have any. I would like to do this by the end of December! In Seattle we have an average rainfall of 31.4 inches. And most of it is condensed into a 4-5 month period, which we are about to enter. Thats a lotta rain!
A $5 donation goes a long way. And beyond that, sharing this post within your community helps as well!
I will be donating these materials to the SHARE/WHEEL program here in Seattle, heres a link http://www.sharewheel.org/aboutus.
"What is SHARE/WHEEL?
SHARE is Seattle Housing and Resource Effort (co-ed).
WHEEL is the Women's Housing, Equality and Enhancement League (women-only).
We are partner organizations of homeless and formerly homeless men and women.
All of our efforts are self-managed; run by the homeless members themselves.
We are King County's largest shelter network, with 15 indoor shelters and 3 Tent Cities.
In addition to shelters and Tent Cities, we facilitate a Storage Locker Program and a Housing-For-Work Program called SHARE2.
We are not a social service organization; we are a self-help group."
