For Marek, the best part of staying at the House was learning to ride a bike with the help of his mom.

When Marek was diagnosed with leukemia, he and his mom had to leave their Whitehorse home to get treatment at BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver. They found a comfortable place to call home at Ronald McDonald House, while Marek's dad and siblings were able to visit from Whitehorse on weekends and holidays.

For over thirty years, Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon has been providing accommodation for seriously ill children and their families when they must travel to Vancouver for their child’s major medical treatment. The House serves 2,000 families each year in 73 spacious suites.
On June 2, 2014, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital was also opened. A House within the hospital, the Ronald McDonald Family Room serves over 700 families each year, and is a welcoming refuge for families of children admitted for treatment.
