Take a Stand for Ethan

UPDATE: Stacey has courageously shared her family's story. To read it, go here: https://dandywalkerandus.wordpress.com/

As many of you know, Ethan is an incredible toddler! He is the son of two wonderful people, Stacey and Bill Barr, who we love very much. He is the little brother of Billy Barr, one of the most adventurous, adorable and caring 4 year olds around. Ethan is happy, friendly and curious.

He also lives up to his name, which means strong. In utero, Ethan was diagnosed with Dandy Walker Syndrome.  At the time of the diagnosis, Stacey and Bill were faced with many unknowns. Doctors were not sure if Ethan would make it to birth or his first birthday and if he did, doctors couldn't say how his health would be impacted. Stacey and Bill embraced the uncertainty and have ensured Ethan got the best pre and post-natal care. He has gone through multiple brain surgeries and one heart surgery and he is only two years old. He also is extremely loved and is very blessed. He has received unwavering support and commitment from his parents' friends, family, colleagues and community. The outpouring of love and resources from all of you has been astounding - and it has had a profound positive impact on Ethan's health and well-being.

Ethan has surpassed doctors' expectations time and again. He is social, engaged and interacts constantly with others. Doctors predicted he would not be able to do any of these things. Without question, Stacey and Bill have had an immense impact on this outcome. They are warm, dedicated and caring parents who also tirelessly advocate for Ethan. However, it truly takes a village and your support has also contributed to Ethan's well-being and his continual surpassal of the medical field's expectations for him.

The Barrs will need support as Ethan grows and hits more milestones. There will be hospital stays, medical procedures and expensive medical equipment will be needed. Through this, nurturing and self-care for the Barrs is of utmost priority. Stacey and Bill are strong, affectionate and powerhouse parents. And yet their village of support is essential as it gives them the resources to flourish even more.

2017 is going to be a big year for Ethan and his family! He is expected to go through two surgeries. Each surgery is costly because, as many of us know, insurances come with high deductibles. In addition, Stacey and Bill typically have to pay for a hotel, gas, food, parking, etc each time Ethan undergoes surgery.

There is exciting news too! Ethan is going to have the chance to stand on his own two feet - literally. This accomplishment will be nothing short of a miracle! It will be another skill for Ethan to master that doctors thought he never would be able to do! Without the proper medical equipment, Ethan is unable to sit, stand, hold his head up or sleep. These days, he is quite uncomfortable sleeping so he and his parents have many sleepless nights. In order to make Ethan more comfortable, Stacey and Bill are hoping to get the following -

Hospital lift bed $6-7000
Stander $3000
Gait Trainer $2000

This equipment will help Ethan to do things that most us take for granted on a daily basis! It is likely insurance will cover some but certainly not all of these items. Yet each is important for Ethan's continued success and well-being. Your dedication and ongoing commitment is crucial for this to even be a possibility.

So we're asking you to continue your amazing generosity and contribute to this fundraiser so the Barrs can keep nurturing and aiding Ethan. Thank you for being a part of this village that supports Ethan in his journey!

Love,
Hannah and Gayle; on behalf of The Barrs
