Charlie is 6 years old and has spinal muscular atrophy type 2, which is a genetic condition that causes muscle weakness and progressive loss of movement. It occurs due to deterioration in the nerve cells (motor neurones) connecting the brain and spinal cord to the body's muscles.
We are raising money for ongoing equipment not funded for by the NHS. Charlie currently has a specialized powered wheelchair which we successfully fundraised for 5 years ago, this needs to be upgraded to allow Charlie to keep his independence and mobility which is vital to his quality of life.
