Hello!

My name is Muna Ilogu and I am a Junior at Rutgers Univeristy, dual majoring in Public Health and Information and Technology. I am also a Douglass woman at the Douglass Residential College, Rutgers.

About the Project: The project is designed to cater to children and young adults in African countries who are in need of shelter and daily essentials in disadvantaged institutions

Mission Statement: Bringing hope to children and youths in orphanages, clinics and rehabilitation centers in African Countries by funding their education, medical care and essential needs.

The Importance of this project:

As of 1990, about 30 million children in sub-Saharan Africa ages 8-17 were orphans.
As of 2010, 53 million in this age group were orphans . Out of those 53 million about 15 million are orphans due to loss of parents from HIV/AIDS (UNICEF Data on Orphans by Region to 2010).

Also this past year, 6 major countries in Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Libraria. Nigeria, Senegal and Mali were greatly affected by the ebola crisis which killed a total of 11,094 people within those countries (Center for Disease Control and Prevention 2014). Because the ebola crisis left a lot of children in these countries without parents and family members to take care of them, orphanages in these regions need as much help and support that they can get to be able to pick up these children and assist them.

Also, recently #Bringbackourgirls campaign rescued 234 Boko Haram captives with 214 of them pregnant. These unborn children along with others yet to be discovered are going to need the effective services of orphanages for the children as well as rehabilitation centers for the young women.  Also according to the stats from UNICEF we can see that the number of orphans in sub- saharan Africa is rapidly increasing.

This project will help assist orphanages, clinics and rehabilitation centers to cater to children and youths that have been affected by the recent tragic circumstances that have occurred in these countries.
