Nepal Earthquake Relief 2015

Nepal, a beautiful, land-locked country with rich culture and history was struck by a devastating tragedy today, 25/02/2015. An earthquake at a magnitude of 7.9 shook the country, mostly affecting the areas between the capital Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara. It has currently claimed 1,341 lives and the numbers keep growing. Many are reported missing and many have suffered serious injuries. Buildings and roads have collapsed. Historical monuments have been destroyed, including the Dharahara Tower that was built in 1834. Our nation mourns for the thousands of lives lost. The funds raised on this page will go towards buying and sending items in high demand in the affected areas, such as dry foods, tents, medicines and clean water.

My name is Yasmin Rai. I am currently living in the UK but I grew up in these very streets and it breaks my heart to see my home country being affected by this natural disaster. I feel utterly helpless and fearful of the warnings of the possibility of more tremors in the next 48 hours. As I type this, I have many friends and families who are sleeping in the streets tonight as a precaution. The only way I can extend a helping hand to those affected and in need in Nepal is through this social platform, with the generosity of people from all over the world. I urge everyone reading this to donate as much as you can and I assure you, it will go a long way in helping to build our nation back and to help provide immediate aid; be it medical care, clean water, food or shelter.
