SwimWithSwain: Montauk to NYC

$28,117 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 36 people in 27 months
My name is Christopher Swain.  I am a swimmer and a clean water advocate.

I am hoping you could consider supporting my 130-mile Swim For Clean Water from Montauk, NY to New York City, including the entire lengths of Long Island Sound and the East River.

Along the way, I will call for a permanent end to the dumping of sewage into our waterways.

Why? Because I love the water, and I want every waterway in New York to be safe for swimming every day.

Over the last twenty years,  I have swum thousands of miles in polluted rivers, lakes, and oceans in support of clean water, and I have made presentations about my work to over 80,000 North American students.

The money we raise here will help to fund my swim.  Any extra funds we raise will support my campaign to make every waterway in New York safe for swimming.

If you decide to back my project,  I'll show my love and gratitude by hooking you up with some cool rewards.

Depending on how much you contribute, you could snag a personalized thank you card,  a trophy (shaped like a toilet in honor of our anti-sewage message!), an invite to the swim post-swim party, or even a private Swim Escort Boat tour of Long Island Sound or the East River.

Hi Everyone!

Thank you so much for sticking with me this year!

Despite blizzards and boat breakdowns and back injuries and a severely-sprained right shoulder that required months of physical therapy, I persisted and became the first person in history to swim the entire length of Long Island Sound and the East River.

Thanks to your support, our call for a permanent end to the dumping of sewage into our waterways reached audiences across North America and beyond.

This fall, you can look forward to receiving any rewards associated with your donation.

Thanks again for your help,

Crossing the finish line after 133 miles

As I neared the halfway mark on my swim, things were going well: I was dodging sharks and jellyfish, and making the case for clean water at conferences and schools. Then the outboard motor on my safety/escort boat died. Now, I need to raise my fundraising goal to fix the boat and finish my swim. Can you help me?

Thanks to support from many of you and a huge boost from our new Education Partner (Steve Goldman of) Petro Home Services on Long Island, we reached our stretch goal of $20,000!

We reached our goal, but this campaign won't end until my swim ends. So if you'd like to see me visit more schools, or dedicate more resources to making sure every waterway in New York is safe for swimming every day, please give what you can!

As you can see from the wetsuit chafe, sunburn, and jellyfish stings pictured below, I've definitely got skin in this game.

I won't give up, and I would welcome your help.
