Swanson Homes Condemned Units

Donation protected
On October 9th, flooding from Hurricane Matthew forever changed the lives of 32 Portsmouth families (200+ people) living in a public housing complex called Swanson Homes in Portsmouth, Virginia. Residents were forgotten by their housing authority (the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority or PRHA), for three weeks to deal with no heat or hot water and mold. Because it’s public housing, residents were not authorized to contract services to mitigate the storm damage. Fast forward to over a month later, 31 units have been condemned for various reasons with some units in worse shape than others.

Now, these family are scattered across Portsmouth, living in hotels with limited space including cramped kitchen facilities and little storage for groceries to feed their families. We are moving into the holiday season and most of us are so blessed to have these basics and many more comforts. Won’t you join me and other concerned citizens in helping to make Thanksgiving and Christmas a joyful time for our brothers, sisters and especially their children in need? This is limited to just residents from Swanson Homes who have been displaced because of their homes being condemned. Your gift of any amount will be a blessing. I Barry Randall, The Peoples Pastor, promise to make sure every dime is accounted for and given to the needy families.
