Anyone with the slightest understanding of the current political discourse could well be aware that Ethiopians are caught in series of struggles between opposing forces of truth and lies, fact and fabrications, kindness and cruelty. We live through a staggering transition in the information landscape where propaganda is utilized as a weapon, in and of itself, on state-run, opposition-affiliated as well as social media. Messages got deliberately distorted and manipulated; stories are told with exaggeration or intentionally ignored; and false narratives are deployed to instigate ethnic conflicts and violence. And in all this, the media landscape is often used for destructive ends. This not only undermines social cohesion but also encourages hostility by spreading disinformation or messages of intolerance that tend to manipulate the public to resort to violence. This is extremely worrying for many of us who sought deeper insights and interactive discussions in the national political discourses. While some have begun anchoring and opening an organized, yet utterly distorted story lines and platforms, the silent majority are left as passive recipients. As such, we are convinced that the Ethiopian media platform needs to be reconstructed to be relevant to the masses. Therefore, we avouch that we can not fail on this quest. Together we must take a chance on participating to build the nation we have dreamed of. However, we are aware of the fact that we can only do that if we create room for an open dialogue, discussion and deliberation of ideas and come to consensus on our common interest and visions. For this purpose, we take the lead to build a powerful voice for our society. And we set up the strategies and tools to carry out our service, not only to inform citizens about all aspects of pressing issues, but also to create an objective platform for the generations to come. It is at this exciting and new era that we are announcing, with all the excitement, that we are in the verge of starting a brand-new media named Tigrai Media House (TMH). A media outlet independent of interest groups that is seeking your support for the prospects of a better media environment. A strong and objective journalistic culture is worth fighting for!
