Sanjana's Nicaragua Fund
Donazione protetta
Dear Family and Friends,
Now that I have graduated from Emory University with a BS in Biology, I am thrilled to share that my next journey lies in Nicaragua, working for the 501(c)(3) non-profit initiative Manna Project International! As a Program Director (PD), I will be working full-time between communities near Managua, Nicaragua, serving individuals facing profound poverty in the realms of health, education, and livelihood. I will have the privilege of leading, designing, and developing community programs to foster a sustainable partnership with those who need it most. What do I mean by need? Let’s have a look at a few numbers:
Of the community members MPI aims to serve...
-75% never completed elementary school
-100% of children need treatment for parasites
-There are 9.2 hospital beds for every 10,000 people
-96% do not have access to preventive health care
-43% live on less than $1.00 a day
In efforts to change this harsh reality, I will be working with a diverse, dedicated group of PDs doing things like developing and instructing adolescent health education curriculum, addressing undernourishment through a child sponsorship program, working in the Villa Guadalupe clinic, which provides primary-care and gynecology services to 1000+ community members, and so much more.
In Nicaragua, I will be a volunteer and in order to raise awareness of the program, I am expected to fundraise my living expenses (room, food, transportation, etc.), insurance, and programmatic funds. This totals to $4,500 over 5 months (July - December). $2000 needs to be raised by July 12th, my departure date, and the remaining funds by October. Family, friends, mentors, colleagues, I truly can’t do this without you. Please consider donating to this impactful cause and help me live this dream. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support!
I will be creating a blog soon with promised updates, so you can join me as I travel along this incredible journey. Stay tuned!
With immense gratitude,
Sanjana
