Support for Flint

My name is Brittany and I am from Chicago. My friend Monica and I (along with additional people hopefully ) will be heading to Flint next weekend to volunteer on the ground and provide support. We have decided to delay our departure for an extra week in order to recruit more participants financially and in person.
We we aim to donate time going door-to-door as well as money for water, water filters, and other needs. Because organizations operating in Flint have the ability to purchase the aforementioned items at a lower price and we have imited space, we plan on purchasing almost everything upon arrival in Michigan. Many of the items in demand are affordable/have been discounted, so even the smallest contribution will go a long way.
Also, we intend to designate a significant portion of all donations to those unable to access available resources, mainly undocumented immigrants and residents without required identification. Organizations focusing efforts on such demographics include Catholic Charities of Flint and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. These organizations and others are in need of Spanish speaking volunteers to assist with organizing efforts. We plan to leave Friday, February 12, and will end this campaign some time on that day in the early evening. Due to limited time to fundraise prior to departure, our current goal is relatively modest. That being said, with your help via contributions and sharing with others, we would love to raise more. Side Note: We have read that disposal of water bottles has begun to pose a challenge for some organizations. If anyone catches wind of places that have developed an efficient system presently in Flint, has ideas regarding potential disposal options, or wants to share any useful information, please contact one of us.
