Bikefast's mission is to turn Belfast into a world class everyday cycling city and, in turn, an even better place for our kids to grow up in.
Bikefast is purely a volunteer effort - because it needs to be done. Belfast isn't on the radar of big cycling organisations. As a city, we're on our own.
So a team of one (hi, Jonathan!) pulls together a website, social media campaign, some mild investigative journalism, direct political lobbying, event organising, radio appearances (yes, even the Nolan Show ) and much more.
Colleague volunteers pitch in video content and articles, but it's all independent and presented for free.
Bikefast incurs ongoing expenses from travel costs to website hosting, design, digital storage and security, marketing, lobbying and event costs. And they're rising as the scope of activities grows.
Since between December 2016 and May 2017 Bikefast's activities have included:
Exposing worrying anti-active travel lobbying in Belfast
Defending Belfast Bikes against austerity cuts
Fighting the shock taxis in bus lanes stitch-up
Coordinating the epic Election Cycle 2017 canvas
Leading a response to Belfast's Bicycle Network Plan
Representing Belfast at Cyclist.ie meeting in Dublin
We'll continue to try to meet costs, but we rely on your help to lighten the load. Supporting Bikefast through donations, no matter how small, is vital to keep the show on the road - and hopefully the bicycle on the dedicated cycleway :)
