Adaptive Yoga for Children

Donation protected

Your donation makes it possible for our remarkable instructors to travel to public school classes in our county and offer life enhanching opportunities to special needs children and teenagers.   Offering our students exercises in body awareness and increasing their self esteem, gives them a positive perspecitve on thier enviroment and their coommunity.      We offer individual attention to each child and help provide a sense of shared involvement and accomplishment. Our instructors work one on one with children living with a wide variety of physical and neuroligical challenges to:

*Increase their feelings of physical well being.
*Increase focus and improved concentration.
*Curbing impulsiveness ( reducing rowidiness,  providing safer school climates).
*Increased emotional intelligence:
*Improved conflict resolution skills
*Increased Respect and Empathy ( for self and others)
*Increased Resilience and Self Confidence to overcome challenges.

We believe that equipping children with awareness through body centered activities helps build social, emotional skills and supports them to concentrate better academically.  Children growing up with skills to regulate their emotions, to better understand their own needs, to recognize other’s needs, to problem solve compassionately will help usher in a more peaceful thriving future.
We utilize movements that have been well researched and proven to be effective when introduced  by professional instructors to transorm and strengthen bodies.

Our intention is to raise  $10k to pay the junior adaptive instuructors a fair salery  and to sustain  these classes  through the 2016 school  year.  As our program gains momentum and it becomes clear that the minful movement activites are making positive impacts on these children's lives we are being called on to  add additonal elementary classes in both  Santa Cruz  and  the Watsonville, Pajaro Valley School District.

The Adaptive Yoga Project  ( AYP) has been in operation since 2007, and born out of the need to provide movement and pain relief for students of all ages with limited mobily .  AYP was founded by Yoga Therapist, Annica Rose,.  Our  all age classes are facilitated by a core group of yoga thereapists and dozens of volunteers who show up  to assist the instructors  to make the classes for special needs a reality.
