Support for Libby Olsen's Road to Recovery

So little has changed in a year and so much in a moment…

On the evening of Wednesday April 10th things changed significantly in our world and now we ask for prayers and support for our 16yo daughter, Libby.

She had a very severe headache and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Upon arrival our suspicions and fears were realized. She suffered from a stroke with bleeding on the brain.

The doctors and nurses have been nothing but fantastic and Libby is meeting and exceeding all things they expect from her right now. She is stable. But there is still a long road to recovery!

Libby is now off the ventilator and sedation and she has been interacting with us again. But she is still very tired, only staying awake for 5-10 minutes at a time. It will take a while for all the blood in her brain to be reabsorbed. We are told that being worn out is a side effect of that.

She still has some significant motor challenges, she only has control of her left side. The good news is that her sense of humor, memory and processing seem intact at this very early state. She will be going to training (Libby hates the word therapy) to help continue her improvements.

We are truly blessed to have so many people who care so much. We can’t imagine what things would be like if we didn’t have all of you. Everyone has asked what they can do for us.

First, keep praying. Although things are good there’s a lot more work to do.

Second, please don’t forget about us in the next few months. This is not going to be over for us next week or the week after. Libby will spend a few months (no idea how long) getting rehabilitation treatment in Grand Rapids and some time in Chicago for a procedure there.

Lastly, we are going to have many expenses not covered by insurance even though we are not sure what this will entail plus time off work. This is one of the hardest things to ask for but I know that we will need support!
