Dear Friends:
It is with a heavy heart but strong optimism that we are asking for donations on Go Fund Me. On April 29th ,my sister Gabrielle Root, was diagnosed with Stage two Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma. Gabrielle has a long battle in front of her beginning with 20 weeks of chemo, followed by radiation treatments and finally surgery. David, Gabrielle’s husband is caring for her full time and still trying to maintain a full work schedule now that Gabrielle is unable to work. Although Gabrielle does have private insurance, only a portion of the costs of treatment will be covered. Gabrielle’s family has lost their income for the next year that Gabrielle would provide. In addition copays, medication, deductibles and non-covered benefits add up very quickly. I suggested a GoFund Me account to help ease the financial burden and allow Gabrielle and her Family to focus on getting well. Dave and Gabrielle feel very conflicted about asking for handouts and do not want friends to feel obligated to help them in this way. My response was simply, “who can afford cancer?” it is financially crippling. Gabrielle is doing the hard work to get well. That alone is all anyone should have to think about while battling this devastating disease.
