NIU Supermileage Fundraiser

Hello, we are the Northern Illinois University Supermileage team.

Over the past seven years, our team has strived to build a vehicle which is ultra- fuel efficient. In order to do this, we have to come up with new and innovative ways to reduce fuel usage. We have designed our body to minimize air resistance, shaved off ounces of weight anywhere we can find them, and have spent countless hours fine tuning our engine. In doing all this we are not only aiming to make our own vehicle better, but also the world. With any new innovations that we create, we have the potential to improve the efficiency of vehicles worldwide.



We compete in two competitions each year, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Supermileage competition, and the Shell Eco-marathon. Every year since 2010, we have placed in the top 10 for the SAE competition, which includes four 3rd place finishes. This year in the SAE Supermileage competition we placed third with 1,758 MPG, which is our record. By participating in these competitions each year we are trying to show how advanced Northern Illinois University is and that our students have the ability to do anything they set their minds to.

Right now we are in great need of financial support. State budget cuts are planned to take away 30 million dollars of funding from NIU for the upcoming fiscal year, and likely many to come. All of the available money in the university is going towards keeping the university functioning and paying for student grants which would've typically been paid for by the state. In the past, the university has supported us, but this year the budget doesn't leave much room for club funding, which is why we need your help. We need to raise $5,000 so that we will be able to afford the supplies to build a new car, and for transportation and lodging costs for the competitions we compete in. This year the engine we are required to use in competition has changed to a larger model, which will cause us to have to buy a new engine and make modifications to it, make a new frame to accommodate the new engine, and possibly a new body as well. This money will be able to support our team until after our competitions this year, and any donations are greatly appreciated as they help us to continue breaking barriers and continue making headlines for Northern Illinois University.
