Hike to Fund Outdoor Kids Programs

Donation protected
My name is Steven Cossin,
I'm an avid outdoorsman and advocate for Nature.
What this is for:
I'm raising funds that go directly towards scholarships for kids and teens to attend Coyote Trails School of Nature programs and summer camps, and help me cover my costs of hiking the entire length of the Pacific Crest Trail (2,660 miles) beginning in April 2016from Mexico to Canada as a way for me to spread awareness of the importance of nature connection, and to raise money for outdoor programs for kids. Taking only the gear that I can carry on my back and making only periodic resupply trips into town for food, I will be averaging 15 to 25 miles or more per day depending on the topography. Staring at the Mexican border, the P.C.T. extends north through the Mojave desert into the high Sierras, through the mountains of Northern California and the rolling hills of Oregon and on up through he rough peaks of Washington where its northern terminous sits on the U.S. Canada border.

As part of this hike I will be writing, blogging, and video blogging the experience so that anyone and any program may follow the experience and my progress.

To do this I have partnered with Coyote Trails School of Nature based in southern Oregon. With whom I have worked as an instructor for 4 years. The experience of teaching and helping kids to discover, learn, and play in the outdoors has truely been life affirming. Coyote Trails is a non-profit nature awareness school who teaches classes to kids as well as adults, but my focus is on building support for their classes for kids and teens. They have programs ranging from week long day camps, to hosting field trips, to working in schools with the classrooms directly.Much of their work is done with Title I schools, where most kids come from very under privilaged families. If not for programs such as these, these families would otherwise never be able to afford such classes, camps and experiences. For more info about Coyote Trails and their programs you can go to their website; www.coyotetrails.org

Where will the money go exactly?
Fully half of every donation will go directly to fund Coyote Trails outdoor programs for kids. plain and simple.
Coyote Trails is a 501C3, therefore half of your donation may be tax deductible!
The other half will go towards food supplies for the up to six months that it will take for me to hike the 2,660 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. As well as permits for the hike, bus fare down to the start of the trail and back after I finish. And possibly for any necessary gear along the way, say I need a new pair of shoes 2 months and 800 miles in. After I've returned from the trail, any and all remaining funds will then also be donated straight to Coyote Trails programs.

How much this means to me
This is really the culmination of a dream to both take on a grand adventure while at the same time having it not only benefit a cause much greater than myself, but one that is so near and dear to my heart and to many others. I believe, and have witnessed first hand, that cultivating a love and appreciation for the outdoors, especially at a young age will in more ways than can be quantified help ensure that we grow into confident, compassionate, stronger, healthier, and more fulfilled human beings. The programs at Coyote Trails really do change kids lives for the better, and with whatever you can contribute so will you.

Any questions, please call the Coyote Trails Office [phone redacted]

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to fulfill this dream!

- Steve
