State Street Boxing - Non Profit Program for Kids

Donation protected
My name is Mario Ramos. I am a former Pro-Boxer from Salt Lake City, Utah. About ten years ago I started a non profit called State Street Boxing.

For years this non profit has acted as a boxing gym that provides training and mentorship to at-risk youth—all at no cost. Our mission is to provide structure and sanctuary to kids who often have neither. State Street Boxing Club

Referred to us from drug rehab, homeless shelters, and juvenile detention centers, our youth face issues like:

Drug involvement
Lack of vocational or academic skills
Self-mutilation
Bullying
Emotional reactivity
Physical abuse and neglect
Sexual abuse
Abandonment
Incarceration

With the assistance of a network of dedicated volunteers, former pro-boxer Mario “Fireball” Ramos has built an authentic, individually-tailored mentorship program to provide them with the structure and support they so urgently need. As a result, our youth report more discipline, self-respect, confidence, personal accountability, and a sense of feeling known and valued.

To further assist our youth, we are creating an on-site therapeutic program under the consultation of Dr. Jacob Ham, Director of the Center for Child Trauma and Resilience at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and Suzette Cook, a trauma-informed therapist based out of NYC. Using an evidence-based model designed for our population, we will work toward bolstering academic success, increasing emotional awareness and management, helping children heal from trauma, and reducing recidivism.

AND THIS IS WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP TODAY: State Street Boxing is effective in providing a safe haven and a sense of purpose to at-risk youth in our community. But we want to expand our impact to even more struggling children. We recently moved into a bigger location that will allow us to serve upwards of 250 more children per year. We are in need of funding to help us purchase new equipment, make much-needed building repairs, help fund meal programs and continue to develop the programs that assist in changing the trajectory of the kids we serve.

Fundraising Goals:

$10,000 ——————   This is our base-level need and allows us to have major repairs finished, making our new location secure, and gives us the ability to accommodate more kids, safely.

With this money we will be making repairs to our electric grid and plumbing so we can build out a couple of bathrooms and get our gym functioning and able to accommodate more children.

Some of our partners include Decker Lake and Utah governmental organizations that work with youth in State's custody. We're also proud partners with Salt Lake City Police Department’s Explorers Program, Shelter the Homeless, and several substance abuse programs around Salt Lake Valley.
