Baby Bohannan - An IVF Story

First comes LOVE! Then comes MARRIAGE!
Now we are praying for a baby carriage!
Our story is my favorite story to tell! I’ll try not to drag it out too long. We met, and it was love at first sight. It sounds crazy but it is very true! Within weeks, we were dating. He didn’t even ask me. One day, he just decided I was his girlfriend. I had no objections, of course.
Christmas 2015 was the best! We accidentally said our first “I love you”s at one of our favorite restaurants. We still laugh about that night. I thought I was lucky then.
In 2018, we found out that I was unable to get pregnant on my own. My uterus and ovaries were in excellent condition but we had to have my Fallopian tubes surgically removed. Basically, I can make a baby, and carry a baby, but there is a disconnect in between prohibiting me from having or keeping a pregnancy.
We are still devastated. .
In spite of this horrible new frontier we were facing, we decided to get married and explore our options of starting a family. We chose to try In Vitro Fertilization. The Reproductive Endocrinologist gave me special medications to increase the production and quality of my eggs. He then extracted them through a process called Oocyte (egg) Retrieval. Once they were fertilized, incubated and starting to grow, those embryos (embabies in the IVF community) were put into cryogenic preservation. They are now frozen and waiting to be thawed and transferred back into my uterus.
You hear so much about the joys of parenthood that it is often overlooked how difficult the struggles are of a barren person or couple. Think of being surrounded by the one thing you want in this world, but knowing you can’t have it. You would still have to show joy for others though.
If you have children, I ask you to imagine what life would be like if you had never gotten the opportunity to have them, or love them like you do. The pain is excruciating.
They say say that you can’t truly appreciate a win until you’ve lost. We don’t know how many more losses we can take. Any search engine can give you an estimate of what Assisted Reproductive Technology costs and we only have a handful of embryos left to transfer.
We will try again soon and only ask for your support, respect, and prayers. With a little bit of science and a WHOLE LOT OF LOVE, we may have the opportunity to start our own little family!
