Kimber's Heart For Africa

On May 9, 2015 I graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Drama and on May 15, 2015 I begin a 2,180+ mile hike on the Appalachian Trail.
Battling cancer for the past two and a half years has taught me many things, but most of all that I can do anything. I decided to go on this adventure to prove to myself that there are no limits to what I can accomplish. But then I realized: why make this adventure only about me? I decided to dedicate my Appalachain Trail journey to Heart For Africa.
"Heart for Africa is a faith-based humanitarian organization focused on bringing hope to the people of Swaziland by focusing on Hunger, Orphans, Poverty, and Education." I fell in love with this organization in 2010 when I worked with the co-founder to raise money for Heart For Africa with my high school thespian troupe. Since then, my passion for what they do has continued to grow. The orphanage for abandoned babies has found a special place in my heart.
Each Saturday, I read a blog written by the founder of Heart For Africa, and each Saturday I am astounded by the hope this organization provides for kids in the most devastating of circumstances. From stories of babies dropped in pit latrines and thrown into rivers, I cling to the hope Heart for Africa provides as they give these babies a home. It would be an honor to walk every day with these kids at the forefront of my mind.
Partnering with me on this journey is an investment in the lives of the world's children. 1 in 4 adults in Swaziland are infected with HIV/AIDS, the highest percentage of affected adults in the world. Consequently, the hope of this country is in the lives of the children. Let's work together toward a bright future, one child at a time.
My goal is to raise $2,180; that's $1 for every mile I walk in honor of these kids. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the work of Heart for Africa.
