Tanzania Project

Hi! Tommy  has asked to take part in his school’s charitable work: his school has partnered with a school in a village in Tanzania to improve living and educational conditions there. He wants to go with his classmates for two weeks this summer to immerse himself in the community, work with the children there to identify their needs and to help with the ongoing building projects including providing clean water, creating improved hygiene facilities and securing satisfactory educational materials. His school is raising funds to donate to the project and he also needs to pay 2,000€ ($2300) to cover his own travel costs. Anything we collect over this amount will be used to help other classmates go as well- and beyond that to be used to donate directly to the school and the village community in Tanzania. Please consider contributing a few bucks for this work if possible. When we were in Seattle, he spent the last three summers working with the children in the impoverished migrant workers camps and really enjoyed that work. This trip will take that experience to a whole new level. We want to do whatever we can to help him make it happen but we are seriously pressed for time. By contrast, when D and L were saving for their high school trips to Scandinavia and Scotland, respectively, we had three years to save money for each and lots of ways to work alongside them both to earn the money (holiday gift wrapping booths at Fred Meyers for 5 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas and selling programs for Seahawks games in the frigid and loud stadium, for example.) But we don’t have those opportunities this time... so public appeal has got to do.
