Da-giiwewaat (so they can go home) is a national campaign to raise awareness about child apprehension impacting Indigenous children in Canada.
There are more Indigenous children in foster care today than the total number of kids who attended residential schools during their operation!
Manitoba has the highest apprehension rates - 90% of kids in care are First Nation - in the Western world! 40 babies a month are being taken from just ONE hospital. Children are being taken first before even investigating.
In a landmark ruling released on January 26, 2016, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found that the Canadian government is racially discriminating against 163,000 First Nations children and their families by providing flawed and inequitable child welfare services ("FNCFS Program") and failing to implement Jordan's Principle to ensure equitable access to government services available to other children.

Through education and citizen action, our goal is to eradicate racism and bring children home to their families and communities.
To make this project a success we are raising funds to cover:
*leather, tools and other supplies for making moccasins
*shipping costs to send moccasins to participating communities
*promotional materials and events
We are calling on everyone to get involved and help us make 163,000* moccasins for Indigenous chidren affected by the child welfare system of Canada!

For every $20 raised, a pair of moccasins will be provided to a child in foster care!
