Kidlington Development Watch Green Belt Campaign

£850 of £4,000 goal

Kidlington Development Watch - KDW - campaign to save the Green Belt north of Oxford City is entering the final, critical stage.
At the preliminary one day hearing in October,  we made a strong and well informed case on behalf of the affected communities.  However, the developers, landowners and Cherwell were all represented by QCs who based their case largely on legal precedents. While there is arguably, no precedent for the taking so much Green Belt and allowing the coalescence of villages, the Inspector nevertheless decided to proceed to the full Hearing. The final,  four day long Public Examination will start on the 5th February.

We think expert representation is crucial to make our voices heard.
All  five community action groups have joined forces to achieve this.

Together we will  engage expert professional advice to help us prepare for the Examination in Public and to represent us at the key sessions. This will help us present the our case as effectively and strongly as possible.

This will be costly so we need your help to raise funds urgently.
 Your contribution  will help us make the strongest possible defence of the Green Belt around Kidlington.
The more money we raise the more legal support we can secure.

Cherwell District Council is asking the Planning Inspector to allow the  release of  green belt to meet Oxford City’s ‘unmet housing need of 4,400 extra houses. Their Local  Plan  includes:
-   1950 houses between Begbroke and Yarnton east of the A44;
-     435 houses in Yarnton to the west of the A44;
-     The closing of Sandy Lane;
-     Over 2000 new houses in Woodstock, Cutteslowe, Kidlington and on the North Oxford Golf Course;
-     100's of houses at Woodstock toward the airport;
-     Total disregard of the impact of recent and ongoing development in Long Hanborough, Witney, Woodstock and Langford Lane;
-     Ignoring new evidence which finds Oxford's true objective housing need is half that being planned for;
-     An absurd circular argument that the  'working housing need figures' -  cannot be changed even if shown to be false.

More information and a map of the land earmarked to be removed from the Green Belt - and hence released for future development is available on our website  along with details of other donation options.

We have a strong case and hope you will agree that our Green Belt is worth fighting for.  Any amount you can spare will help the cause.
Thank you  from everyone in the joint Campaign team !

Delighted to report that KDW's supporters have raised over £3000 toward the joint legal fund ! This is a wonderful effort. It means we can press on and engage a barrister to represent Kidlington and the other communities affected by Cherwell's proposed Local Plan.

Thank you one and all.

We are continuing to raise funds to maximise the benefit of having a barrister on the team. The Public Examination in February will last four days. Not a long time for the Inspector to decide the future of the N. Oxford Green Belt. Ideally we will raise enough money to enable our barrister to be present at each of the key sessions.

Again thanks. Please share the good news and encourage others to contribute to the cause.
