Solutions for Sammy

Sammy is a six year old who was diagnosed at birth with a heart defect. At 7 months old Sammy had his first open heart surgery. He went into cardiac arrest for one hour the next day. Sammy now has severe brain damage, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, eats through a feeding tube only, takes 12 different medications three times a day. Sammy has had 3 open heart surgeries and several heart caths to date. In September of 2015 Sammy developed a severe fungal infection inside his chest. The drs were able to treat that after spending weeks in the hospital. May of this year Sammy needed another open heart surgery to replace a valve and to also remove an aneurysm that was just beside his heart. While the surgeon was operating they found a pocket that contained fluid. The fluid was tested and came back as a fungal infection. After spending 3 weeks in the hospital, Sammy was able to come home. On July 23rd Sammy was taken back to Riley because he developed a red spot on his chest. Well, the fungal infection is back. Mom is currently staying at the hospital with Sammy. There is no estimated time of discharge.
