SMS Trip to See Hidden Figures

I came back from our day off to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to a buzz. Teachers , administrators and parents were talking about a movie.
"Did you see it?"
“I knew about separate but equal, but this movie helped my family actually see how it impacted people’s lives.”
"It was powerful!"
These are just a few things I have heard people saying about the movie Hidden Figures, the story of how black, female mathematicians helped get the first American into space.
Smithton Middle School Faculty and staff wanted to find a way for all of our students to experience the powerful message of this movie. It connects to what we are teaching our students about math, science, history, and civil rights. The movie will be part of a bigger conversation and learning activity with our students. We want this movie to be a gateway towards understanding and exploring equity in our school and community.
We are coming to our families, friends, and community to make this possible. Coming up with funds to take 800 students to a movie is quite an undertaking! An approximate cost per student is $7.00. We are planning trying to raise $ 4000 in a short amount of time to insure all students can attend. Every little bit helps. Could you help send one kid? Could you pass the link to our campaign on to someone else who could?
