Get the Skateboards Rolling in Papua New Guinea!

Hey Pals,
A number of years ago, my Surfing Club in Port Moresby (Pyramid Board Riders Port Moresby) through the help of a great group of volunteers, was fortunate enough to build one of the first dedicated skate spots/mini ramps in the country. The mini ramp is now in some serious need of T.L.C. Located in one of the best spots (but next to the surf/ harsh salt/sun) the weather has not been kind to our humble first attempt of a ramp.
The aim is to show it some love, get some fresh plywood, fix the holes, do some upgrades, and get the local kids hyped and skateboarding again. A few skateboards and pairs of shoes would go down a treat as well! I will personally be taking a bag over and will cram as much skate gear in as the airline allows me to drag on board.
The long-term aim of this project is to build a simple, protective roof over the ramp with a rainwater catching/tank set-up. The positive impact will be two-fold-providing fresh water for the surf club and providing a free and fresh source of water for the local family/traditional custodians of the land. This local family kindly give up their time and space for the benefit of the local community, particularly the youth, in allowing the operation of surf/skate facilities to take place on their property.

It doesn’t matter what race, gender or place you come from- it’s all about fun, friendships and good times. It’s something we take for granted in a country like Australia, so I am on a mission to take this sport that has changed my life growing up (for the better) and share the good times and opportunities with other young people who need it most.
I will be travelling to Papua New Guinea in July 2019. The aim is to raise the funds before this date, so we can plan, order and hit the ground running!
