Siona's Race to Help the Homeless

Tax deductible
A Million Questions
Homelessness in NYC is a pervasive problem, one which only seems to get worse. Our daughter Siona, who is 5 years old, commutes to school every day, from Brooklyn to Manhattan, with her mother and brother. During those trips, as well as a recent trip to LA, Siona began to notice something very confusing to her: Homelessness. As a young child who lives in a comfortable home, has plenty to eat, and is provided with all the toys, books, and clothes she could ever want, it's been difficult for Siona to wrap her head around how somoene becomes homeless and what life as a homeless person is like. She has proposed numerous solutions for the homeless problem ("we should just build new buildings for the homeless people to live in"), and more importantly, has asked repeatedly how she can help.

A Race to Help
One day, Siona came up with a brilliant idea: She would run a race to raise money for homeless people. We've signed Siona up for the kids race that is part of the NYRR Queens 10k, on June 17th, where Siona (along with her brother Asher) will run her first organized race and will hopefully raise a good amount of money to support the New York City Rescue Mission , an incredible organization that assists the homeless in New York.

About New York City Rescue Mission
One of the things that we love about the NYC Rescue Mission is its commitment to providing services to lift up the homeless population it serves. Not only do they provide meals, shelter, and services to the homeless and hungry they care for, but they also address the deeper emotional and spiritual issues to help them transform their lives, and reconnect with the world.

All proceeds from this campaign will go towards the NYC Rescue Mission and will help Siona see that she has the power to make change in her community.
