Single Mom and 3 Kids Need A Home. Please Help!

Donation protected

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I know it’s long, but this family needs your help!  If you know anything about the system you know that people can get caught in the “in between” this is Amy.

How We Got Here:

I first met Amy through a mutual friend.  At the time she was 21 and had just had her son and had to stop attending college to raise him.   Soon thereafter she would have her daughter.  She was only 23 with 2 children.

Her and the father made it work for awhile and after a few years she became pregnant with their 3rd child.  Unfortunately, the pregnancy turned out to be high risk and she was forced to stay home.

The birth process literally almost killed her as she went into labor a month early and nearly had a stroke in the middle of delivery.    Both baby and mother made it though, but 6 months later, the father left.

Amy had just recovered from the delivery and hadn’t had a chance to even try to look for a job.  Now with no degree, and 3 young children she had to find a job that managed to cover a place to live, living expenses, divorce costs and 1/2 of daycare.   She made 35K at her previous position.

The divorce was a horrible 2 year long struggle that involved at least 3 different court process and tens of thousands of dollars.  In the end there was no alimony and minimal child support due to the custody percentage.

I opened up my home to them (yes 6 of us in a 3 bedroom townhome) and Amy found a job that allowed her to simply get by when things took a left turn again and she found herself unemployed.

Just last month she started her new job.  It’s an amazing opportunity for her, however, it is primarily commission based so she needs time to build.

The Hurdle:

So here’s the last hurdle, the one where this family so desperately needs you.

Through some unforeseen incidents I have to sell my home quickly.

So, what is Amy going to do?  She needs a few more months to build her new position.

The Breakdown:

Amy has no savings to move with, low credit due to her time unemployed and a job that needs ramp up time.  Her family all lives too far for her to legally move the kids there and no friends have the capacity to allow a family of 4 to live with them.  The subsidized housing list is too long.  She has been working with a social worker, but the only ways she can find to get help is to go into the shelters first...which means she will undoubtedly lose her custody rights.  Not to mention, per her divorce she needs to stay in the school district or the father gets custody while they go through the court process again (possibly years).

Bottom Line

Amy just needs a few more months give or take to get back on her feet.  Without housing, not only will she be homeless, but she will lose her custody rights for possibly years.

Please help us keep this family together!! We are raising at least First, Last and Security Deposit to help her move into a new place.  More would be great as she will still struggle with rent for a little bit longer but she needs a launch pad.

Any help is appreciated, $10, $15, $20 or even a simple share of this post is helpful...it all adds up and helps.

Thank you so much again for taking the time to read this and helping in any way you can.   I know it means a lot to this family.
