Film about Syrian refugee women

What is She Is Syria?

She Is Syria is a documentary that tells the stories of Syrian female refugee women and girls. So much of war is viewed through the lens of politics and violence: men behind podiums and men with guns. Rarely do we see women and the heroic roles they play at the forefront of war—leaving their homes in search of better lives for their children, keeping families intact, caring for children and the elderly, earning an income when male breadwinners are fighting, imprisoned, or killed. We are raising funds so we can continue to capture these stories.

In January 2016, we launched production, documenting the stories of female refugees through film & photography.

Why Do We Need Money?

We need money to cover travel costs, equipment, and to pay for a production team. We are continuing to shoot in Greece in February & March 2017. Thus far, this project has mostly been self-funded.

Sarah Mardini, a Syrian human rights activist , volunteers on Lesvos, Greece as a lifeguard with ERCI, which rescues migrant boats crossing the Aegean Sea.
