My name's Raymond, a regular musician on the Scottish gig circuit & usually recognised on or off-stage for having a pretty impressive, untamed beard.
I'll be singing from 7-9pm on March 30th, 2019;
hairy at 7pm, bald by 9pm, to raise funds for a very, very good cause.
Here's why:
Aside from music, I'm also a founding member and director of Re-Act, Refugee Action Scotland, a volunteer run, not-for-profit group with a strong work ethic & big heart.
We began in 2015, as the refugee crisis escalated, and have since collected & sent over 1,000 tonnes of aid from Scotland to refugee camps in Europe & the Middle East.
Within Scotland, we have assisted hundreds of refugee families with their houses, education & integration, with regular playgroups, classes & social events to help people feel at home here.
***Now, 4 years on, as refugees become old news, funds are tight. ***
And when funds are tight, there's a serious limit to the amount of good work we can do.
So, to raise some funds...
I'll sacrifice the beard, on-stage, mid-gig on a Saturday night at Finnegan's Wake, Edinburgh.
It will be a Shave Rave of banging tunes, occasional clipper interruptions, and too much fun.
You're also welcome to offer your own hair or beard to the clipper gods if you want to get really involved!
This platform is set up to raise as much as we can, even before the day itself as I realise most people won't be able to attend.
So, donate here instead ;)
I've set £2,500 as a goal. Let's try to exceed that.
As an example of where your money goes:
£40 = trip from Edinburgh -> English/Scottish Border;
£850 = trip from Edinburgh -> Calais;
£2500 = trip from Edinburgh -> Samos refugee camp, Greece.
£35 per cubic metre of donations to Calais.
And remember - No-one receives a penny in wages at Re-Act.
It all goes directly to where it's needed.
Please donate as generously as you can, spread the word, consider parting with your own hair...let's make the most of it and enjoy the night!
