Serving Syrian Refugees in Greece

Hey friends!
Yes! I (Jeff Saferite) am heading back to Greece! Words cannot express how excited I am about this opportunity and the goal of this trip. Not a day goes by that I do not think about my Syrian friends and the situation in Greece. My thoughts and conversations are constantly flooded with their struggles.
How does this trip benefit the refugees:
1. We will get to see my refugee friends again! When I asked one of them how we could help, he said the best thing you can do is visit and to let us know we are loved and not forgotten. Sitting, drinking tea, and sharing stories brings refugees a sense of joy and hope that is often lacking on a day to day basis.
2. We will seek to discover how Hill City Church can best support and empower refugees long term. Be sure to read my latest blog to know what I mean.

3. We will be introducing new people to the situation in Greece. We will have a team of 4-6 people going this time. Each of them has unique gifts that will help us tell the story of what is taking place.
4. We will help supply basic needs to the refugees. This may include food, diapers, and baby formula but we will not know until we get there as needs change on a regular basis. During my last trip (with Servant Group International) we were able to raise enough funds to purchase two months worth of diapers and baby formula for 5th street school (one of the squats) as well as a week’s worth of breakfast and two weeks worth of dinner for another squat of 40 families.
Personal excitement:
5. My daughter will be going with me!! Robin and I have always desired to introduce our kids to the struggles of the world. She turns nine two days before we leave! I have no idea what I did for my birthday but I'm pretty sure it did not involve serving others. :)
