Help me teach English abroad!

Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Vanessa, I am 23 years old, and I recently graduated from Fresno State with a B.S. in Criminology. During my time in college I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship to study abroad in Japan (photo above was taken in Japan) and ever since then I have been yearning to pick up and travel the world before I settle in to a location for good.

I plan on doing this by taking a 4-week TEFL (teach English as a foreign language) certification training course in Prague this summer! Once I complete this program I will be able to apply to teaching jobs in various countries. I would love to return to Japan to teach eager students the essentials of learning the English language, but I am also considering finding work in South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Costa Rica or Brazil.
(Prague, Czech Republic)

I have enough to cover the cost of the program, travel insurance, visa/work permit costs, the flight (one-way), food and other fees. Your donations would help me survive during the approximate two months I would be unemployed and training, so it would cover additional food, housing/hostel arrangements, transportation, and unexpected expenses or emergencies. I am hoping to leave by July 1st and any donations would help me to gain some security once I am abroad.

In case you'd like to know a little more about me... my emphasis was on Forensic Behavioral Science because I enjoy learning about people and behavior. I have many goals for when I return to the United States (or stay abroad). I would love to work with people who need substantial help in our society, such as troubled or abused children, juveniles delinquents, drug addicts, convicted criminals, the elderly, or victims of crimes. I secured these career goals after learning about the vast amounts of social issues we face as a society in both local and global aspects. After interning with the United States Federal Probation office in Fresno, I felt more prepared to begin my journey into the real world because I was able to build confidence in my purpose in life by witnessing first-hand the people who were involved in the criminal justice system. I feel that this certification would allow me to travel and enhance my global perspective and this would in turn help me to better assist people in various ways. As a teacher, I would gain organization skills, confidence in leading groups of people, and I would also learn how to communicate with a diverse group of people, a skill that is essential to have when working with the populations of people I wish to work with. I also just love the idea of using my training to teach English to children or adults to improve their future career and life potential and goals.

As for more about "just me", I enjoy painting, drawing, yoga, cooking, and listening to music. I also enjoy bowling and was on Fresno State's collegiate bowling team for a year! I grew up in San Francisco and eventually moved to Richmond, CA and then Albany, CA to live with my older sister when I was 16. My mother worked hard to provide for our family when I was younger. She barely spoke English and so my sister and I grew up bilingual and helped my mother and father when they needed to understand things. Despite their language barrier, they managed to provide my sister and I a life they never had. We are both first generation college students. My sister graduated from UC Berkeley and I graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from Fresno State. My mother passed away from cancer when I was 15 and despite losing such an important person in my life I have fought hard to make her proud. I carry her strong work ethic with me and strive to live a life she could have never imagined for me.

Your donations, whether big or small, would help me gain peace of mind as I learn to become a great English teacher in the heart of Europe and consequently a great English teacher for students in other countries! Not to mention the fact that you will help me achieve my desire to travel abroad :)

Thank you very much!
