Send Teacher Meg to Italy!

This lady.  This lady is a force of Love like none I have ever known. It makes me tear up just thinking about her. She has been a TIRELESS advocate for our children and our families for the past 13 years.

13 years of field trips in the rain, 13 years of parent meetings, 13 years of story times, 13 years of glitter and glue crafts (you couldn't torture me into undertaking in my home), 13 years of being the best part of our children's week, 13 years of pouring her heart into the little people who mean the most to us. We are ridiculously fortunate to have Meg be the first face of "school" for our children. It is hard to put a value on what a gift that is.  All of my children have been fortunate to have Teacher Meg as their first teacher and all of them still run up to her for one of her enveloping hugs every time they see her. Her love is so evident, so convincing, that YEARS later my big boys are still swept up in her presence every time they see her. And this is true for all her former students as well.  Not only does she remember all their names, her love for them is just as strong as the day they toddled into her classroom. I don't know how she does it, but she truly has room in her heart for every single one of her preschoolers. She has lovingly touched hundreds of lives in our small community.

After all these years of being not only a preschool teacher, but the best preschool teacher imaginable, wouldn't it be fun to surprise her with a small token of our gratitude?  As a single mom, and a preschool teacher, it may not surprise you to know that the funds to do "extras" are not always there.  Meg has shared with joy how her daughter Emily is getting the chance to travel to Italy this summer for two months for a study abroad program. She also shared privately, how she has longed to see Italy her whole life, but wouldn't be able to visit Emily while she is there due to finances. Guys! LET'S SEND MEG TO ITALY!!!

Krystina B. and I got talking, and decided to launch this GoFundMe in hopes we can gather enough money to bless the socks off of someone who has blessed our families for years. And guess what? Last month was Meg's 60th birthday! What a wonderful way to celebrate such a giving and selfless lady on her 60th trip around the sun!

I chatted with Emily, her daughter, and she has been over the moon about the idea. Meg will be able to stay with Emily while in Italy so all she needs is money for airfare and extras.  We can DO this!!!

Here is a note from Emily about what it will mean to her mom:
"My mom is the one who has taught me the most about what I know and love today.  Though we have gone on many adventures together, it is Italy that she has dreamed of for years. When I told her I was hoping to study there, she was ecstatic .

People may not know this but, her dad’s side of the family is Italian. In fact we are both named after her grandmother Teresa Privaterra, who immigrated from Sicily through Ellis Island, I grew up hearing wonderful stories of Grandmother Teresa from my mom. My mom also has the family Sicilian cookie recipe, makes Italian food whenever she can, and pronounces the word “ricotta” with a very Italian accent. She’s tried to raise me with the Italian values she loves… rooted in family, arts, culture, coffee, and most importantly, having an open door to your kitchen to share with anyone. My mom is an awesome cook and baker, and she gives her very last dollar to pay for our family holidays to create a lot of beautiful food. Out of five uncles and aunts, my mom is the person who cooks the most, but only because she enjoys it so much. It was very difficult to find pictures of her eating at our holidays because she is the last to sit down, and always cares about savoring the memory by taking pictures.

She has instilled this passion for food and culture in me and motivates me every day to do more and more of what I love. She is the first person I tell when I try a new restaurant, go on a new adventure, or learn about something interesting in architecture, landscape or art history. I know you’ll never, ever meet a woman that will make you a stronger cup of coffee, handpaint your child’s face for a Kittycat Party, or be so selfless.  She has been a joyful bystander while both of her children travel internationally, without so much as an inch of jealousy, only miles of enthusiasm. It would mean so much to both of us to get to share in this experience together."

We are keeping this a surprise for the short term until we have gathered enough money to at least purchase her ticket. But PLEASE give and share!!! I can't wait to see the FB photos!!!
