Josh Goyne is a bull rider living in Australia's Central Coast. He's also an openly gay man and advocate for LGBT rights in rural Australia. His frankness about his sexual orientation has painted a target on his back in the world of rodeo. However, even after receiving death threats, he has been undeterred and has continued to cowboy up, saying "there's no chance in hell" he'll back down from competing.
Enter: The International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA). Formed in 1985, IGRA holds a series of annual rodeos in the United States and Canada, culminating with the World Gay Rodeo Finals in October of every year. When we heard Josh's story, we reached out and told him that he should make the trip to our side of the globe and rodeo with us. To our delight, he said, "Yeah, it's a dream of mine!"
Here's where you all come in: Josh needs some travel funds to make a few trips to the US this year to compete in our rodeos. His first trip will be to Dallas, TX at the end of March. All funds raised will go toward his travel expenses including flights, hotel, and ground transportation. Josh says that being able to rodeo in an open and affirming rodeo environment would mean the world to him.
