Seeding the Seed Library
Donation protected
Everyone should have access to nutritious, healthful food and the resources to grow it for themselves! Help us do this! Como Community Seed Library, a mobile seed library, was founded in the fall of 2015 to give the community access to free organic seed and garden education. As a 2016 Seed Savers Exchange Community Seed Resource Program participant and with seeds from the Little Seed Library program we served over 200 community members and families with seed for checkout, seed and plants swaps, and garden education from regional seed stewards. We also collaborated with Langford Recreation Center offering seeds and supplies for seed ball making and seed checkout for 50 young beginning gardeners in the summer of 2016 and in the summer of 2017 we collaborated with a U of M Cornercopia intern and summer splash participants to create an edible garden.
In 2018 we plan on serving the community with community garden pop-ups, seed saving demonstrations, mini seed libraries at community service points, and with our annual seed and plant exchange in May. Our goal is to provide the tools, seeds and education so that 500 + families can grow healthy nutritions fruits and vegetables economically and sustainably.
Please help us with seed money for the library. Proceeds will cover purchasing seed, books, and tools, materials to package seed, transportation costs, and printing.
To show our appreciation we will include a pack of pollinator seeds from Invenire Garden with every $50 contribution.
Thank you so much for helping us cultivate community by sowing, growing, saving and sharing!
