Help Save Wild Things in Botswana

Donation protected
Did you know that a rhino is killed by poachers every seven and a half hours? There are only 4,000 to 5,000 black rhinos and 20,000 white rhinos left in Africa. Soon this most iconic of Wild Things will be simply gone. I can’t stand that thought.

I want to learn how to protect all the Wild Things.

That’s why I’m leaving on July 9, 2015 to study Conservation Science in Botswana, where the Okavango Delta is still relatively unpopulated by humans and remains one of the safest places left in Africa for the rhino and other wild animals

I will be studying for three weeks through the CIEE High School Abroad program .  I will stay for one week with a local host family in the capital of Gaborone and then do two weeks of field study in the Mokolodi Nature Reserve and Okavango Delta. I’m sixteen years old and I hope to return as someone who will be able to help give the rhinos a future.

My parents have challenged me to raise $2,000 towards the cost of this trip. To meet that goal, I’ve designed this T-shirt depicting my journey: Seb/Max goes to Botswana to save the Wild Things!

For a $25 contribution, you will receive a T-shirt (M, L, XL) and a letter providing more information about my program and how you and your family can support animal conservation around the world. On return from Botswana, I’ll also email you a link to my website where I’ll be posting photos from my trip including (fingers crossed!) some pictures of wild rhinos. Plus, send me a photo of you wearing your shirt and I'll post that too as a contributor! If, thanks to your support, I’m fortunate enough to meet my goal, all additional money raised will be donated to Save the Rhinos.  I will report to my contributors via email about our fundraising results.

I'll be asking for your mailing address with my thank-you note so I can send you your shirt.

Why rhinos? First, they were my grandmother’s favorite animal. More importantly, because the poachers exterminating them are armed and dangerous like a private army, using helicopters and machine guns to hunt their prey. And all this so they can cut off the horn and grind it into a powder sold on the Asian black market as medicine. It's not medicine and it doesn't help anybody. The rhino carcasses are abandoned.

Poaching is a natural and a human disaster. Worldwide, at least two rangers die every week in defense of the Wild Things. Botswana is now training and arming an anti-poacher Rhino Squad authorized to shoot to kill

My family and I are super excited that I get to go on this incredible, life-changing journey. I'm so lucky! But we will be even more proud if we are able to make a contribution to animal conservation. Please be a part of my story.

People will ask you: where did you get that awesome t-shirt? We want you to say: "I earned it helping Seb to Learn to Save the Wild Things."
