SDG Challenge to Tanzania and back

Donation protected
Help send us to another continent…and no it’s not to build houses, we're not builders!!…but instead on an educational cultural exchange to Tanzania. Huh I hear you say!! Have you ever heard of the SDG’s? Most people haven’t, actually only 15% of the Irish population are aware of the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2015, 193 countries came together at the United Nations to agree on 17 goals to guide our social, economic and environmental actions in order to achieve a sustainable future. The thing people tend to miss understand is that the SDG’s are universal, they are as important in developed countries as they are in developing countries. Gender equality is paramount everywhere…cue Ireland’s recent referendum. Quality education, good health and well being, zero poverty, you can’t deny these are a priority for all. Let’s not forget about climate change, I doubt you forgot about it…but almost half of the SDG’s are related to the environment and the future of our planet and all that exists on it, plants, animals and you know the human race. You can’t control mother nature so maybe it’s time we figured out how to work with her and make up for lost time!

This 8 month project in association with Development Perspectives is an opportunity for 20 SDG advocates from Ireland to travel to Tanzania and work with a group of 20 Tanzanian advocates and a community in Chamazi. Here we will be discussing, debating and critiquing the SDG’s. Understanding each countries perspectives and assumptions with regards the SDG’s and the communication and implementation of policies and projects that focus on achieving the goals. We will be taking part in and facilitating community events, workshops and interactive sessions on how to open up a publicly engaged discourse about the SDG’s from different perspectives. Following this we will return to Ireland, working with the spirit of partnership our group and 5 of our Tanzanian cohorts will create a public exhibition/experience communicating our insight and the goals for public engagement and interaction.

What your cash monies will be used for…well the obvious which is accommodation and food (a girl’s gotta eat!!). But the most interesting thing is it will pay for the Tanzanian part of our group to fly to Ireland and be present for the final public experience, where we share with you our journey to sustainability. Thanks in advance for your help in making this a reality.
