School Trip to Help in Gambia

Donation protected

My daughter is in year 9 at High School and has the opportunity of a life time to go on a humanitarian trip with her school to Gambia in Africa, as part of 'Project Gambia' next April (2019). Information on Project Gambia

Since 2007, her school has been involved in projects in Gambia, Africa and each year give year 10 students the opportunity to spend a week changing lives of people who live there and at the same time changing their own lives by opening their eyes, hearts and minds to how people live there.

My daughter has a lot to contend with, I am a single parent, she has an older sibling who has Downs Syndrome and Autism and many medical and behavioural challenges and she struggles with anxiety and depression herself.  So her desire to be a part of this trip has amazed me and made me so proud. She wants to help others. She is particularly keen to help in Gambia's only special needs school. During the trip she will also be involved in refurbishing and re decorating classrooms, helping make sustainable farms, helping villages achieve running water supplies,  supporting children to take part in their first ever arts and crafts projects, to play football and to help clean up and re stock a village medical center.

Visiting and supporting villagers who live in cramped mud shacks, with no gas or electricity or running water, who survive on hardly any food and being able to bring a small amount of joy to their lives is such an amazing opportunity. I don't want my daughter to miss out on this because I cant afford to pay for her to participate. So I am reaching out to friends and local businesses to see if people are willing to help me make this happen for her.

Costs have to be paid by the end of  the school term in December 2018.

The cost has not been confirmed but based on last years figures, the travel and accommodation is expected to be  £1050, the vaccinations are £150 and each student is asked to fund raise at least £50 towards supplies they will take with them as a group.

Because of her anxiety disorder my daughter has never been able to stay away from home, so has never participated in school trips /  residential breaks. I want desperately to reward her progress and determination to over come her challenges and be a part of this fantastic opportunity to help others. So I am asking you to help me make this happen for her by donating anything you can and asking anyone else you know who would be willing to help her to do the same.

Every penny raised will go towards this trip and the projects under taken while there :)

Thank you
Helen
