‘THE JEWEL OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY’

200+ year old dairy farm adjacent to proposed quarry

The Lower Milford Residents Association (LMRA) – a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization - is seeking donations to help pay for substantial legal costs incurred as we continue our 12+ year legal fight against a proposed and ill-conceived 600+ acre quarry, asphalt plant and concrete distribution plant.   If successful, this quarry will forever alter a Township that the Lehigh County Planning Commission has called “The Jewel of the Lehigh Valley.”
Land scarred by a quarry
Quarry air pollution

Lower Milford Township is tucked among rolling hills in eastern Pennsylvania.  The area is defined by its narrow, winding country roads threading through century-old historic stone homes and barns, forested acres of land, streams, farmland, wetlands and dairy farms.

Adjacent wetlands home to endangered bog turtles

Since 2004 the LMRA and the Township, protecting its zoning ordinances, have been battling the proposed quarry.  The Township has vigorously defended its ordinances and we have supported their efforts.     Our dedicated group has worked hard to raise money through modest annual dues, charitable donations, cookbook sales, bake sales, flower sales, flea markets, etc. to fund this fight.  But keeping the deep-pocketed quarry interests at bay is challenging.  To date, collectively we have managed to fend off 17 quarry legal suits and appeals whenever the Township Zoning and Planning Boards rule against them.  And yet the suits and appeals continue.

LMRA’s determined group of engaged citizens needs help. Hopefully you are of like mind that sometimes the ecology of an area is more important than an industrial use that will threaten our water and create air pollution.  We will continue efforts to protect wetlands and endangered species such as bog turtles.  We will endeavor to protect the ground water supply to our homes and farms [the area’s water supply is almost exclusively from private wells]. We remain committed to protecting pristine streams and creeks that are home to brown trout.  Our concern for clean air quality is unending.   We will not give in!

With your assistance, we can save this beautiful “Jewel of the Lehigh Valley” from quarry developers.   Any amount will help.  And don’t forget, your contribution can be tax deductible because of LMRA’s 501c-3 status.

Thank you for your interest and any support.
