Saving Swiss Cheese





Swiss Cheese is in need of our help. He turned 6 weeks old today & has megaesophagus. He was seen at the University of Wisconsin on Wednesday & we were told that his megaesophagus could be corrected with surgery & they felt it would be best if we waited until he was 12 weeks old because he was doing well. So, we were sent home & instructed to keep him upright as much as possible in order to allow gravity to help pass his food thru the stricture on his esophagus & to feed him small portions every two hours.

Unfortunately, this evening Kyle messaged me that he was acting lethargic, his temperature had dropped to 98 degrees & he was down to 2.6 lbs. immediately we decided to take him back up to the University so that he could have a feeding tube put in, but after talking to the ER staff, they suggested not taking there tonight, but to the closest emergency veterinarian to stabilize him & transfer him up to Wisconsin as soon as he is stable to have surgery sooner than later.

His surgery & emergency care at this time has been quoted to us at $6000, he deserves a chance to experience life as a puppy unlike his mom who won her freedom back in September. I'm so grateful that we rescued her because had he been born in the mill she came from he wouldn't have gotten the attention he needed & his future grave.
