Save the Palace of Fine Arts!
On December 15th, Save the Palace of Fine Arts presented a petition signed by over 22k concerned citizens to the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Commission. In that petition, we said without ambiguity that boutique hotels or "destination" restaurants have no place there and expressed our demand that the entire Palace complex MUST remain a place for the Arts and Education, open to all.
Our call was rejected outright by the Commission.
But, the fight is far from over and we thankfully still have the opportunity to change the fate of the Palace. Continued public education and awareness is our first and most important step. The number of people who have absolutely no idea what is in store for the Palace remains shockingly high. As we do local canvassing we run into person after person who is unfamiliar with the Commission's plan and, every time, their first reaction upon hearing it is, "That is just crazy!" Their second reaction is, "What can I do to stop this?"
WE MUST EDUCATE THE PUBLIC.
Up to this point a handful of people have stepped up and been paying for our homemade outreach materials, but we need to get serious and up our game. We are fighting in the big leagues and we need the kind of materials that make a large impact -- we need window signs, handouts, posters, and banners for our community efforts. We have a wonderful volunteer design team that has created some wonderful materials such as the beautiful window poster below, and work with a Union printer who uses envirnomentally friendly materials
