Save Thornbury Farm

Donación protegida

Last night after cleaning up the farm, we found our High tunnel green house collapsed. The weight of the snow was too much for it. It is about $8,000 in damages and we have crops to be planted in the next three weeks, our heirloom tomatoes. what is a farmer to do?
We are trying to hold on to our farm. We are the last working farm around, at over 308 years old. Our farm market is what keeps the farm working. I see signs on yards to save this and save that farm. I never see many of them in our farm market, our farm could be next. What is a farmer to do. We support local artist and crafts in our market. If people don’t come back to local farms, there will be none. Should we rebuild? What keeps a farmer going on, is the hope of a sunny season, even rain, better crops and a community that will come to see the harvest. Do we rebuild. What is a farmer to do? Farmers hope and plant the seeds, water the soil and care. Care that the efforts to keep a green house heated during a snow storm, harvesting and watering crops in 100 degree heat will be appreciated. We may do a fund raiser to try to rebuild but will you come? What is a farmer to do?
