Save the Historic Gren River, Utah Wild West Jail!

There are very few historic old wild west jails left. Ours in Green River, Utah has been neglected in a hidden back alley for ages. It's over 100 years old and has held the wildest outlaws the American west has ever known. This campaign has been set into motion to move the old jail out onto a lot on Broadway Blvd, once-upon-a-time the business center for this wonderful and well kept secret little town in the wild west.

Where on Earth is Green River, Utah?

The town of Green River is in Southeastern Utah along the Green River and was once a stopping place on the Outlaw Trail. It's not far from the booming tourist town of Moab, Utah in the Canyonlands area of the Colorado Plateau. In fact since the interstate highway was put in years ago Green River has gone something down the same road as those old towns along the famous Route 66 down South. It's been nearly all but passed up! Moab takes most all the tourism in these parts but word is starting spread that Green River is a fantastic hub to some of the most amazing landscapes on Earth!

Why Move the Old Jail? Who Will it Help?

Most folks in Green River struggle along with not much business in the center of town (old Broadway). Travelers generally stop at the outskirts of town, fuel up, grab a sub sandwich and drive on for their adventures. They're missing the wonderful center of town and so we're committed to creating attractions to get them to come into town. The more tourism we can create the better the chance of new little shops opening up and of course with that comes jobs for good folks who could use the employment. Also, the good spirited and postive energy that reviving these old historic landmarks creates is such a fantastic way to lift people's moral and their happiness. This old jail is going to be a source of pride among the locals and frankly the tourists will love it! It's the real deal, the stuff of wild west legends!

And for tourists and travelers this will be a wonderful attraction! Kids will love the old original iron bars and everyone will find their minds wondering about its history and imagining the characters who reluctantly occupied it's inner walls.

What About the Old Jail's History?

Green River is along the legendary Outlaw Trail. Butch Cassidy and his gang spent a lot of time in Green River and after Butch left some of his outlaw brothers spent time in this old jail! It has a storied past full of outlaws, rough cowboys and spirited notorious types who just couldn't follow the law when the west was still wild. This old jail houses the memories and spirits of a bygone era of the American west .

What Will the Funds Be Used For?

This is quite a project with plenty of important steps. We are seeking funding for proper permits to move the structure, build a foundation for the jail on the lot next to the Historic Midland Hotel, all the manpower and equipment necessary to actually move the jail and for improvements to the lot such that its safely accessible to the public. We're also going to create and launch an advertising campaign to let travelers know there is something very special in the center of Green River, Utah!

The land is ours so that's already done. The terms of the original purchase with the city was that we must move it so that's not a problem. We simply need to get this funded, prep, and start rolling it down the road.

Please note: We own the old historic Midland Hotel next to the lot but the Midland is not open to the public. It's a private residence, so this campaign has nothing to do with any personal gain. This is for the betterment of the community and in the spirit of preserving a fine structure with amazing wild west history!

We need the funds right away as the tourism season is approaching and we want to have this beautiful old jail in place as soon as possible.

We Really Appreciate Any Contributions!

We're more than passionate about sharing this old historic jail with the world! It's been tragic to see that old beauty hidden away and basically deteriorating each year. It's time to move the jail out into the open. Can you see yourself in front of it doing a selfie or family picture knowing you helped save a historical monument?
