Save Taps for Glen Rock, PA

Donation protected

This is my own personal views and not necessarily the views of the Department of Defense or the Department of the Navy.

For those who don't know who I am, I play taps every night just prior to 8 o'clock to show my appreciation to the men and women who have served our great nation's military and to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for this country and our freedom. This is played from a cd player and 3 speakers on a telephone pole set up at the back of my 5 acre property. Thanks to everyone for showing your appreciation and support for taps being played every night. Some sit outside and listen on their porch, some have sent cards, some have showed up at the bottom of my driveway, and others have stop by and shook my hand in appreciation for what I am doing. I appreciate this greatly but this is not my motivation for playing Taps. There have been 2 complaints, one of which was pulled from the Glen Rock council. I serve on the council myself and I have provide my best argument to defend what I feel is my right to express my honor to those who so rightfully deserve so much more. The council voted recently that I will be in violation of the nuisance ordinance if I continue to play. They have said that they will allow me to play on Sundays and applicable holidays. I myself have served our country in the military for 20+ years which included many deployments overseas in both Iraq and Afghanistan and I am proud to stand up and fight to ensure my promise to God, if he brought me safely home, I would do something in remembrance for those who lost their lives while I was deployed. At this point i do not know how much i will need. All funds will go towards any legal fees or penilties for violating the ordinance. If funds exceed that amount or it has been determined that I am no longer violating the ordinance, all funds will go towards helping veterans in some way shape or form such as supporting the veteran's memorial, playing of Taps, donations to VFW or American Legion, or be returned to to the donor, etc. Fines are 300 per day but will also include all court, attorney fees, etc..
A fellow service member, Ryan Walton, and and one of the 2009 Fort Hood Shooting first responders and survivors shared his story with me. He was homeless and struggling after his service to his country. Somehow he made his way down to Glen Rock one night to find a place to sleep. He hurd the sound of Taps being played that night and would return because it gave him a feeling of being safe. Ryan told me that the sound of Taps kept him alive those nights. It is for these reasons we want Taps to continue here in Glen Rock. Please help! Anything is appreciated.
