About Save Schultz Meadow:

Our mission is to preserve the approximately 3-acres of undeveloped land at 3500 Fort Valley Road (at the corner of Schultz Pass Road and Fort Valley Road) as Open Space.  Once the meadow is legally designated Open Space, it will be protected from any type of development and will be left in its current, undeveloped state.

The meadow is city-owned.  Over the past few years, it has been considered multiple times for possible development. It is currently zoned as medium-density residential, although it has been widely enjoyed over the years by locals and tourists alike, as an open meadow. In 2017, we asked council to re-zone the land as legally designated Open Space, and it declined, suggesting that citizens take up a voter initiative to make the land Open Space. So, we are taking this to the ballot.

To get the issue on the ballot, we need to collect over 4,000 valid signatures of Flagstaff residents. Then, voters will decide the issue during the November 2020 election.

Why we need your help:

We need financial contributions to help with the costs of the initiative: we have incurred expenses and will continue to do so as we get closer to the election. We created a Political Action Committee, “Save Schultz Meadow,” for this purpose.

Those of us working on the initiative do so on a volunteer basis.  No money will be spent on salaries or compensation for time except to those individuals or companies hired to do specific or necessary tasks.

All funds go to pay the costs of making the initiative happen: printing of signature packets and campaign literature, advertising, signage, legal fees for drafting the initiative, etc.

You need not live in Flagstaff to donate.  While only City residents are eligible to sign the petition, anyone may donate.
