The Winnebago Community Historical Society needs your support today to save our Town Hall!
The Town Hall, located in the heart of the Village of Winnebago, has touched the lives of thousands of people, both young and old, since 1893. The building was originally used for community events and entertainment, exhibits and workshops, and as a space for community organizations and family gatherings.
Last year, facing possible demolition, a group of enthusiastic citizens formed the Winnebago Community Historical Society (WCHS) in order to save the Town Hall. As a result, the Winnebago Township donated the Town Hall to WCHS. Since then, WCHS volunteers have worked diligently to raise funds for the Town Hall’s renovation so it can once again become a gathering place in downtown Winnebago. One goal of the society is to keep the quaint downtown street scape intact.
Restoration of the building will be done in phases as funds become available. The first phase consists of replacing the roof and gutters as well as installing two ADA accessible rest rooms.
The roof shingles have lifted and in some areas fallen away, true signs the roof is about to fail. Replacement of gutters and the installation of downspouts are critically needed to maintain the structural integrity of the rest of the building below. Making now the time to act to save the building.
The installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant bathrooms will allow the use of the Town Hall facility for all groups in the community all year round.
To accomplish this first phase of our restoration goal, we need more community members to come together to raise $50,000. WCHS is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and all donations towards the project are tax deductible. You can make a significant impact on our efforts to preserve this beautiful historic building.
