SAVE GREENWOOD SCHOOL

The residents of our South Round Top Neighborhood in Kansas City, MO have learned that the Kansas City (MO) School Board voted to demolish the Greenwood Elementary School located at 3711 E 27TH ST Kansas City, MO. The historic school will be demolished in OCTOBER 2018 - in less than 3 weeks! My husband Irving Graham is president of our neighborhood association so we’ve  been rallying along with other concerned residents to save the school by reaching out to several city officials asking them to work with us to save the school but we have had ZERO SUCCESS. Efforts have been made in asking the school board to work with the South Round Top Neighborhood Association to consider a repurposing option - a trade school, an arts & cultural excellence center, a youth multi-purpose center, etc.... ANOTHER EMPTY LOT WILL NOT STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY! WHAT MESSAGE IS BEING SENT TO OUR CHILDREN WHEN WE OFFER NO SOLUTIONS THAT STRATEGIZE TO BENEFIT OUR CHILDREN? We need investors interested in to help us raise at least $868,000. $218,000 to payoff the contractors contracted by the Kansas City School Board to demolish the building, approximately $150,000 to pay off city violations that have been accumulated, and $500,000 to employ a team to renovate a major portion of the building and operate it as a safe and beneficial resource center for our community.
