Our beloved brown house on the corner has incurred fines for the 2016-2017 school year that are twice as much as our security deposit. In addition to being ridiculously overcharged on rent, we have been forced to deal with serious problems within the house that the rental agency and owner gave no attention. A sudden carbon monoxide leak, erratic heating system, constantly leaking pipes, broken windows and of course dirty tap water. Now, they have taken our security deposit and are giving us 30 days to pay fines for the same problems that they have been ignoring all year.
This is one ugly and unappealing “home” but to those who have survived living inside, it holds a truly special place in the deepest recesses of our hearts. As financially limited college students, we could use any and all help paying off these fines. We are trying to keep this house standing and functional for the only reasons you may know it even exists: the sweaty, loud and overrated gatherings we so willingly host in our living room.
If you have ever been inside our house, I think you can sympathize with us. If you have ever hoarded the beverages we provide, I think we’ve paid it forward. If you have ever met us, I think you know how much it would mean to us.
Help this house live on for the younger generations that have yet to experience its greatness and help this house remain a place for great friends and sparse memories.
