Once again, Bedford citizens find themselves embroiled in a dispute with the City and Realty Capital over a high density residential development and zoning changes on one of the few remaining undeveloped tracts of land in Bedford. The Save Bedford, TX group of citizens wants to save the remaining undeveloped land in the city for more business opportunities and sales tax revenue potential for the future of the city. Once the land is used for high density residential, it will be lost forever.
The City of Bedford is the second most densely populated city in the state of Texas with a density of nearly 5,000 people per square mile. The city has over 8200 apartment units that house 47% of the city's population. This is a density of over 820 apartments per square mile.
The Save Bedford, TX group is working for the following:
Land Use - No more high density developments on undeveloped land in Bedford. Save it for new business opportunities now and in the future.
Density - Bedford is the 2nd most densely populated city in all of Texas, we do not want to become #1.
Redevelopment - Promote redevelopment of older high density residential properties where possible.
Accountability - Hold the city leadership responsible to the citizens who elected them.
Our Mission
To present the city leadership and voters with a legally binding zoning ordinance change to settle the issue once and for all on new high density development while still allowing for redevelopment of older high density properties. This ordinance can either be adopted by the council or placed before the citizens for a vote to decide. Ending this issue will allow our city leaders and citizens to focus on other matters that are important to the future of Bedford.
We plan to organize a recall election if necessary of eligible city council members who do not listen to their constituents and put their own interests above their civic responsibilities.
Many Bedford residents are donating their time to this effort, but we need your donations in order to make a lasting change in our city. This time around, with the support of your donations we can mount a campaign that will not be forgotten in less than a year and that will make a permanent change as to how the city develops the remaining land in Bedford.
Account Clarification
The account with two signatures, Ricki Wilson and Faith Zabriskie, is set up at Texas Trust Credit Union. They have locations in Bedford and Hurst. In order to withdraw funds, a Check Request requires three signatures. We are keeping a ledger of all people who donate as well as documenting expenses.
Our expenses will include the fee for our attorney, mailings, signs and other expenses required to make our efforts a success.
Many of our volunteers have donated time and covered costs out of their pockets already. We also have some private donations that came in before we set up the GoFundMe page. We are making every effort to be transparent in what we do because we are all committed to saving Bedford. After all, it is our home.
