My Healing Journey

Donation protected

Greetings! My name is Michael Frazier, Jr., also known as Sermetut Sehetep Khaut. I am a retired military veteran, Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Family Member, and friend. My GoFundMe campaign is a sponsorship for a Traditional Healing Journey to South Africa to be both treated by and then trained/ initiated as a Sangoma (African Traditional Healer).

What Is a Sangoma?

This is a title originating from South African tradition and language, describing what has been commonly accepted as; Shamans, Traditional Healers, Consultants, "Root Doctors", etc. This calling and profession is spiritually and physically wholistic. Sangomas are highly revered in South Africa and throughout the world, being recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). 60%-80% of South Africans prefer going to a Sangoma before seeking the Western medical approach to whatever may be ailing them. They also work alongside doctors in their roles to serve the whole community.

I've learned, through my own independent research, Sangomas exist, in modern times, in all walks of life and types of professions. From celebrity actors, singers, etc... all the way to bankers and surgeons. They each answered the call of their ancestors.

All the Sangomas that I have been in contact with, and/or researched have had similar experiences to my own (which is oddly comforting), and they are now functioning as pillars of tradition and knowledge of applicable healing, passed through generations!

How Will The Donations Be Used?

First, let me say, I am humbled by any support you show this campaign. I am usually extremely private about the things that I deal with as far as my health, family, etc... as it makes me feel a certain level of anxiety and vulnerability. I have learned, within the last year's time it is tradition that the family/community of the "Initiate Sangoma" would pay for whatever is necessary for the process. This is reasonably due to the fact that the person, going to train in these traditions, would be an asset to their community. This is similar to the concept of a 'Community Scholarship'.
So, in traditional form, although we're utilizing a modern forum via Internet, Social Media, etc.., I'm offering my community the opportunity to assist and be a part of this experience. The money will be responsibly used to cover my Travel, Treatment, Training, 3 months of Lodging, and when successful, a culmination in a 2-day graduation ceremony.

I need to have raised the travel donations by December 1st, 2016. In order to fly out in the Mid to Late-December. (The remaining funds for the two day graduation ceremony will be raised while I'm in South Africa. Graduation is officially set for March 3rd and 4th, 2017) [updated as of 2/12/17]

A Piece of My-Story (to be continued...)

In order for you to be able to consider just how important this campaign is to me, allow me a moment to reflect on a few of the experiences which have helped lead me to these conclusions. In 2000, I was found on the floor of the barracks, next to my bunk. I was unconscious after having my first "seizure". When I regained consciousness, I was on a stretcher, on my way to the first of MANY hospital visits. In 2008, I had 15 in a single day, I was placed in an induced coma to try to stop brain activity. So, now that I have received my "ancestral second opinion", I am excited to take this wholistic journey where Western Medicine has proven to be lacking. I had 25 seizures last year (2015), and am currently in double digits in 2016. I will spare you the side-effects of the medications I've been on for the past 16 years. My epileptologist informed me that I had been on the harshest epilepsy medication for 12 years. It had reached toxic levels in my system, which could have proven fatal.  She was surprised by the fact that I was still being prescribed this particular medication, when it was known to cause so many problems.
To quote a recent letter that my epileptologist wrote on my behalf supporting my Veteran's Benefits: "I have seen and treated thousands of patients with epilepsy. Mr. Frazier is one of the most poorly controlled patients I have seen, and his refractory generalized tonic-clonic seizures put him at risk for sudden unexplained death in epilepsy." And, I quote that because this is basically what my doctor has concluded.

This is MY LIFE I'm talking about.

Though I'm very appreciative to the 'professionals' that have helped me along the way, I've come to understand that the Western Medicine approach is NOT an exact science, and it's certainly NOT wholistic. I research EVERYTHING, and amazingly enough, over the last 7 years, my experiences have taught me, more than ever, that our ancestors have many answers that Western Medicine is still not prepared to operate within, or give credit to, for its origin. I'm so thankful to have received an Ancestral Second Opinion, by way of this journey.

My Goals Upon Returning

Thanking you in advance for caring!!!

Positively projecting into the future, I plan to be a product of traditional healing.  I look forward to sharing and serving as a Practitioner and advocate of African Traditional Healing by providing services that include consultation, indigenous herbal medicinal knowledge, etc.. but being still untrained, I can best explain it this way:  I plan to help in the healing of our communities' spiritual and physical wellness, as the ancestors that have gone before me.

I plan to document my experiences, and make myself available in the future, as this is merely another beginning in this continuation, called LIFE.

I just look forward to seeing what the future holds, and I'm thankful to my ancestors for all that has brought me to this point of discovery.

Thanks again for helping to make this journey possible!!!
